Emilia-Romagna

Emilia-Romagna is one of the largest wine-growing regions in Italy, with around 51,000 hectares under vine, and is sixth in terms of production. The region is about 71% flat, and this is where we find most of the vineyards. However, the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine mountains reach an altitude of 2,000 meters.

The climate varies across the region, hence so do the wines, also affected by the two cultural areas of the region: Emilia, to the west and Romagna to the east. The two areas are distinguished by both the different cuisine and the grapes grown.

Emilia is the undisputed home of “Lambrusco,” sparkling red wines made from native grapes of the same name, while in Romagna, still wines made from Sangiovese, Barbera, Pignoletto, Pagadebit and others are preferred.
